Cold Chain, Storage
and Shipping
Cryopreserved biological material is only as good as the chain that carries it. Here is where it is sourced, how it moves, and what your receiving site needs to be ready for.
Where material is sourced and shipped from
- Akira Biotech LLC is registered in St. Kitts and Nevis. That is the company's legal domicile only — product does not transit St. Kitts and Nevis at any point.
- Manufacturing partners operate under cGMP- and ISO-aligned standards.
- Domestic origin and documentation are common screening criteria for clinical buyers, and both are available in writing on request.
The cold chain, end to end
- Material is cryopreserved at the partner laboratory and never leaves temperature control after release.
- Shipments move in validated temperature-controlled packaging sized to the transit time of the route.
- Cryopreservation is DMSO-free and glucose-based, in animal-product-free media, across the cellular portfolio.
- Every shipment is accompanied by the certificate of analysis for the batch it contains.
Storage requirements by product class
| Product class | Supplied as | On arrival |
|---|---|---|
| Mesenchymal and lineage-specific stem cells | Cryopreserved, DMSO-free glucose-based method | Hold frozen until use. Thaw under a controlled protocol; do not refreeze. |
| Exosomes | Cryopreserved cell-free suspension | Hold frozen until use. Do not refreeze after thaw. |
| Secretomes | Cryopreserved cell-free suspension | −20 °C long-term storage. Do not refreeze after thaw. |
| Wharton's Jelly | Minimally processed whole tissue, cryopreserved without decellularization or culture | Hold frozen until use. Thaw immediately before the procedure it is intended for. |
| Isolated mitochondria | Isolated by non-denaturing methods, cryopreserved | Hold frozen until use; handle promptly on thaw to preserve functional integrity. |
The single rule that applies across the whole portfolio: nothing is refrozen after thaw. Plan the thaw for the point of use.
Receiving and handling
- Have a named recipient available — these shipments should not sit on a dock.
- Verify the packaging and temperature indicator before accepting the shipment.
- Check the certificate of analysis against the batch number on the vials.
- Move material into cold storage immediately; thaw only at the point of use.
- Report any temperature excursion to the sales team before using the material.
International shipping and import documentation
- Import documentation is prepared for the destination country as part of the shipment.
- Research-use classification is stated on the shipping documentation.
- Routes and transit times are confirmed per destination when the order is quoted — lead time depends on both the product and the route.
- Buyers are responsible for confirming that the material is lawful to import and to hold in their own jurisdiction.
